Brightlayer 8.0: Smarter, safer, and more sustainable operations across IT and OT environments

Across industries, organizations need to do more with less—maintain uptime, improve efficiency, and achieve sustainability goals while facing cost and resource constraints. Our latest software release, Brightlayer On-premise version 8.0 (Brightlayer 8.0), is designed to meet that challenge head-on.

The new version brings a unified, intelligent experience that helps teams manage valuable IT (information technology) and OT (operational technology) assets with greater speed, confidence, and control.

Beyond rolling out new software capabilities, we’ve repositioned the Brightlayer portfolio and its core on-premise software products. This approach ensures that future product development remains focused on fundamental customer priorities—safety and risk management, operational efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency—that impact a broad range of sectors.

“With an enhanced user experience, updated asset health dashboard, and powerful new analytical tools, this release delivers smarter ways of working for time- and resource-stretched IT and operations managers,” said Mike Jackson, general manager of data center and industrial software at Eaton. “We’re also making it easier for present and future customers to select the software products and add-on features that make sense for them today with the ability to scale as their needs evolve.”

A unified platform with a modern experience

Brightlayer 8.0 delivers a fully refreshed user experience that makes the On-premise platform navigation faster, cleaner, and more intuitive. It includes four key software offerings—Brightlayer PowerBrightlayer Distributed ITBrightlayer DCIM and Brightlayer EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System)— that support both IT and OT use cases. Because these products are built on the same software platform, customers can leverage new products and add-ons without the need for reconfiguration or retraining.

Here’s a quick summary of what’s available in our Brightlayer On-premise platform:

Previous offer Update in Brightlayer 8.0 Focus area
Asset Performance Manager (APM) Replaced with Brightlayer Power Condition, demand and energy insights to boost power asset performance and improve maintenance decisions. Note: APM software is planned for End of Life in June 2026.
Distributed IT Performance Management (DITPM) Renamed to Brightlayer Distributed IT Visibility and notifications for rack UPS, PDU, and ATS assets across edge locations to drive productivity and resiliency.
Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) Replaced with Brightlayer Distributed IT-Lite Monitoring and management for distributed IT environments with less than 50 assets. Note: IPM software is planned for End of Life in Dec 2026.
Data Center Performance Management (DCPM)  Renamed to Brightlayer DCIM Monitoring and management of valuable power, space and cooling assets to improve operational efficiency today and plan capacity for tomorrow.
Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) Renamed to Brightlayer EPMS Expert visibility and analysis tools for power quality and system performance to understand root cause and improve resiliency.

The revisions to products reflect a broader goal: to create a modular ecosystem where every offer adds value individually but integrates seamlessly when combined. The result: A more cohesive digital experience that grows with customer needs.

New functionalities delivering practical value

Brightlayer 8.0 also introduces a range of new tools that provide greater insight and automation. Updated dashboards, visualizations, and navigation elements help users quickly grasp what is happening within their environment. Whether monitoring energy consumption, power usage effectiveness (PUE) or managing edge locations, operations and maintenance teams gain a clear view of what matters most.

Key updates

  • New consumption analytics: Expanded energy tracking for WAGES (Water, Air, Gas, Electricity, Steam) helps organizations measure and compare energy use over time, supporting sustainability reporting and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Advanced alarm summaries: New reports display the top alarm-generating devices and triggers, allowing maintenance teams to focus on issues that have the greatest impact on performance and safety.

  • Improved waveform analysis and one-line diagrams: The addition of voltage and current harmonic analysis for power quality disturbances simplifies root-cause identification, helping users diagnose and prevent issues faster with Brightlayer EPMS software.

  • Add-on Features available: Brightlayer On-premise platform enables customers to access additional features through straightforward license activation, eliminating the need for further installation. Available add-ons include Motor Analytics, which delivers predictive analysis for prevalent motor and pump failure modes, and Disaster Avoidance, offering customizable automations such as shut down, pause on/off, and suspend functions to safeguard IT assets against unforeseen outages.

  • Time-saving enhancements: Automated migration tools streamline upgrades from older Brightlayer versions or legacy software such as Intelligent Power Manager (IPM). New export options (XLSX, CSV, PDF, JPEG) aim to simplify customer reporting and analysis.

Powering today—ready for tomorrow

As designated by its full version number, our Brightlayer On-premise 8.0 release is more than a software upgrade. It’s a strategic, future-ready response to the common power management challenges faced by data centers, manufacturers, commercial buildings and more.

  • Operational efficiency: By integrating advanced analytics, real-time monitoring, and intelligent automation, the platform empowers teams to proactively identify risks, streamline workflows, and maintain continuity in the face of disruptions.
  • Safety and risk: Enhanced alarm summaries and waveform analysis tools help maintenance teams pinpoint and resolve electrical anomalies before they escalate, reducing downtime and improving workplace safety.
  • Resiliency : Through real-time monitoring, dynamic alarms, and predictive trend analysis, the platform helps teams prevent downtime and maintain consistent power availability.
  • Sustainability: Expanded energy consumption analytics help teams monitor resource use, uncover inefficiencies and reduce environmental impact. These capabilities are especially valuable for operators tasked with balancing performance goals against budget and staffing constraints.
